NEEFM is a social enterprise - a company limited by guarantee - and its aim is to raise awareness of the value and benefits of local food across all sections of the community through increased engagement and purchase of quality, locally produced food and drink from the region’s Farmers’ Markets by:* raising the quality and consistency of the region’s Farmers’ Markets, enabling consumers to be able to buy a wide range of quality local foods with confidence.
* improving the range of producers attending markets and supporting producer development
* raising awareness of the benefits of local and fresh food within the community
* improving culinary skills and education of how food is produced, and the benefits of a healthy diet
* promoting intra and inter-regional co-operation between markets and promoting the region’s markets through a collaborative effort
* representing the interests of the region’s Farmers’ Markets
* developing a sustainable future for North East England’s Farmers’ Markets; to secure the supply of fresh, local food and encouraging the continuous entry of new producers and the ongoing engagement of local communities
* and to encourage organisations running farmers' markets to operate in accordance with the principles and guidelines of the National Association of Farmers' Markets (NAFM)
